Hello we are Ollie's Organics welcome to our website.
I started this during lockdown in 2020 when people were not able to get out that much. Any fruit and vegetables we had grown that we did not need I put out on an honesty table, so people could get fresh fruit and vegetables when they came out - People have been quite honest too! and I now have regular customers.
So, welcome to my world (when I am not growing veg) I really like to play football and cricket.
One of my favourite things to grow is courgettes. They are fairly easy to grow, produce plenty and the yellow ones always sell out first.
This year, I am looking at the best pollinators and will try and grow Cerinthe, as the bees really like it. I am also interested in companion planting to try and get the veggies working together, onions and carrots are a great example.
On of my best sellers this year has been rhubarb, which is lucky as I don't actually like it!!
We have 6 very well fed chickens, there is absolutely no fruit or vegetable that isn't eaten by us, them or sold.
Our friends and neighbours always appreciate our crop too.
For 2024 I have extended the growing space available with the rental of an allotment and will keep this site updated with my progress.
There was a shortage of pumpkins for Halloween this year in our area, so next year I will be growing my own. Hopefully I will be selling out this year.
From seed to plate, from season to season.
Just because it is still cold in March doesn't mean that I haven't started the process. I will plant lots of seeds and make sure they are kept warm in a greenhouse.
This is the tricky bit as all of the plants need to be looked after. They need watering, have the weeds removed from the area and also need cutting from time to time.
This is my favourite part. I make sure that I pick them regularly taking the most tender and tasty plants. This means that we have fresh produce the whole time.
How do you prepare a garden for spring?
Add compost and manure, before planting crops such as lettuce, radishes, kale, peas, and onions. Protect young plants from late frosts with a row cover or cold frame. Make sure that you use homemade feed such as stinging nettles in water for 1-2 weeks. comfrey (similar to borage),banana skins and seaweed.
How to prepare your garden for Winter.
As the days get shorter and the weather gets colder clearing old plants and covering the ground is important, to make your garden look clean and tidy as possible. It is a good time of year to prune fruit trees and if you have any seeds you can start growing them in a small container inside on a window sill .
